What is the full form of BRO
BRO
BRO stands for Border Road Organization. It is a road executive force, an integral part of the Indian army. Its role mainly involves development and maintenance of road networks in the border areas of India and friendly neighbouring countries. It started its operations in May 1960 with just two projects: Project Tuskar, which was renamed Project Vartak, in the East and Project Beacon in the west. Today, it is a 13-project executive force that has an organized recruiting and training center, well-equipped workshops for overhaul of plant or equipment and Engineer Store Depots for inventory management.
The BRO has successfully linked the border areas of north and north-east with other parts of the country. Furthermore, it has also developed the road infrastructure in various states of the country such as in Bihar, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Uttarakhand, Chhattisgarh etc.
The roads developed by BRO are classified as General Staff (GS) roads and these are developed and maintained with the funds provided by the Border Roads Development Board (BRDB), through the Department of Road Transport and Highways.
