What is the full form of ITBP?
ITBP: Indo-Tibetan Border Police
ITBO stands for Indo Tibetan Border Police. It is primary border patrol organization in India that was established on 24 October 1962 as per the CRPF Act. It is also counted among the seven Central Armed Police Forces of India. It is headquartered in New Delhi, India. The motto of ITBP is Shaurya, Dridata, Karm Nishtha that translates to Valor, Determination and Devotion to duty in English.

So, the candidates aspiring to join ITBPF should be physically fit, mentally strong and be ready for adventurous and challenging work. Most of the ITBP officers and soldiers are expert mountaineers and skiers.
Tasks of ITBP / Functions of ITBP
- Patrolling and guarding the northern borders to ensure the security along the borders
- Detection and prevention of border violations
- To promote a sense of security among the people of villages located adjacent to the border
- To check illegal immigration, smuggling through the border and other crimes
- To provide security to governed buildings, installation, banks, etc. such as Rashtrapati Bhawan, Sikkim's Rumtek Monastery, New Delhi's Tihar Jail, etc.
- To restore peace and order during an event of a disturbance in an area
- It also organizes a large number of medical programmes for the civilians living in the remote areas near the border and in the terrorist affected areas
- To carry out rescue and relief operations during natural disasters like floods, quakes, landslides, etc.

How to become an ITBP officer:
UPSC conducts the exams for the recruitment of Assistant Commandant in ITBP every year. The information or notification about this recruitment is provided on the official website of ITBP every year. It tells the number of vacancies, pattern of exam, posts and other relevant details about the post.
