SP: Superintendent of Police
SP stands for Superintendent of Police. A person holding this designation is the head of police force of a non-metropolitan district in India. SP is the police officer of either State Police Services or Indian Police Service. In the Indian police force there are three designations that use the word 'Superintendent' such as Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) and Superintendent of Police (SP).

How to become S.P?
The process of becoming the S.P starts with a bachelor's degree from a recognized college or university. After getting a bachelor degree, there are three options for a degree holder to become an SP officer that are listed below:

- The candidate can appear for the UPSC CSAT (civil services aptitude test) and pass this exam with a good rank. In the beginning, you will be posted as D.S.P or A.C.P and after gaining the required experience will be promoted to the level of S.P.
- The candidate may clear the state public service commission examination. He or she can become D.S.P after passing this exam and can become SP after having the required experience. However, the promoting may take more time in this case as compared to the first option.
- In this option, the candidate can start as a Sub Inspector in their state police department. They have to work hard and prevent crime with utmost dedication so that they may get promotions and become SP after proving their caliber and courage.

The work of SP is of a varied nature. Some of the duties or functions performed by an SP are listed below:
