NPR stands for National Population Register. It is a register that contains information about the usual residents of the country. This information is collected at the village, district, state and national level based on the provisions of the Citizenship Act, 1955 and the Citizenship Rules, 2003.

All usual India residents are required to register in the NPR. However, a resident is not required to produce any document for NPR. The information provided by the resident will be self-attested or it will be deemed correct without requiring any document or biometric.
